Why can't doctors diagnose Autism?

This is exactly what I like to hear. Someone who understands. It's amazing that so many parents are sent home from the pediatrician with 'just give it some time, every child develops differently' - just like I was. http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=94386599 LOVE the NPR interview (thanks Little Bit Autistic!)

Thanks!

Yeah, my pedi was no help. Early intervention flagged my son for autism, not my pedi. When he found out I was looking for a referral, he called me during off hours and told me he thought it was an over-reaction, etc.

WOW... I got 'the look' from my Pedi.. but NEVER actually said anything to me. Luckily (or unluckily call it what you want...)he acted up during an appt & the Pedi seemed a BIT more interested. I guess that goes to show that mom's really need to trust themselves... we know them best.
